The Imperial Armored Commando Flys in

On the surface, this is a great-looking figure. This one is also a year and a half overdue. So was this figure worth the wait? Overall yes, but it does have its flaws. It is an all-new figure, and from the looks of it, no reuse of any other trooper or Mandalorian figures. This trooper style is a mix of both traditional Storm Troopers and Mandalorians, but every part of the figure is new.

It does come loaded with accessories – both pistol and rifle blasters, as well as a new jet pack. It is almost fully articulated.

Cons:

The helmet is one piece without a filler head like the recent Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers. It also appears to be too small, especially next to the head of the Mandalorian and Stormtroopers.

Another key issue is that this trooper is missing the thigh swivel. The thigh is one piece with thigh armor molded into it. Many recent Mandalorian figures had the thigh armor as a separate piece glued onto the thigh. Like I’ve mentioned with other figures that have lost the thigh swivel, it does impede poseability.

Pros:

This figure does have additional potential. In Season Three, we see a few of them with stun battens and riot shields. It’s definitely a figure I’d expect them to make in future. If you wanted to kit bash with the Gaming Greats Riot Scout Trooper, the shield and batton go nicely with the Imperial Armored Commando. Not accurate to the show but it scales well.

In addition, the jet pack does have an additional use. It fits the Glavis Ring World and Mines of Mandalore Din Dijarin. We’ve seen this usage already in the TVC Imperial Base Din Djarin, which is interesting because no Commandos have been announced yet for the TVC line. If you do a kit bash with Riot Scout Trooper, you can kitbash Mando and this one to make that version. But given how many times we got the first Din Djarin body re-released, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a third one on the new body with this jet pack.

Overall, this is a decent army builder and worth having in your collection, especially if you are a fan of the Mandalorian series.
