The BAMF Returns: A look at the Mace Windu and 187th pack
On May the 4th, the Clones of the Republic Mace Windu and 187th Trooper set for the Black Series was available to order via the Disney Store. The Clones of the Republic line looks to feature Jedi as they appeared during the Clone Wars as well as a Trooper from their personal battalions. The clones are based on their appearance and colors from the comics. Here’s a quick review and some in-hand pics from the set we got for ourselves.
These guys look great out of the box. The Trooper is on the new clone body. Just be aware the helmet is a little tough to get off. The Mace is good with a mix of new and reused parts from previous Mace Windus.
Here’s a side-by-side of all three Mace Windu’s – the Phantom Menace Anniversary, Walmart Tartakovsky Clone Wars, and the Clones of the Republic (CoR) version.
The legs on all three are the same. The Clones of the Republic appears to use the same torso and head. Oddly though it seems to be processed to be slightly smaller than the original Mace. The Torso has more movement at the waist than the original, and when the head is side by side with the other Mace heads is 1) noticeably smaller and 2) a lighter color than the original.
The CoR uses the lightsaber from the Walmart exclusive with a peg for the hilt but unfortunately doesn’t include a belt hole for the lightsaber to “clip” onto.
Overall, it’s a decent set that pays tribute to the comics! It’s not the best set for army building though. I’m sure army builders would rather have a two-pack of just the troopers, and those focusing on only main characters would rather have the Mace be a single release. It does look like this does continue a trend of “hostage” packs that started off in the Marvel Legends line.
