The Black Series Mandalorian Glavis Ringworld figure analysis

Mando is Back!

Do we really need another Din Djarin figure? Isn’t this the 100th release?

Yes, this figure is probably the last Din Djarin you’ll need (unless they drastically change his costume for the movie). The figure is good enough; I think you could pass on the Mafex or SH Figuarts version and be very content.

This figure is near perfect. Everything is new and sized properly, even his side arm! The jet pack has been redone and it’s actually painted unlike previous versions. If you look at it side by side with the previous version of Din you can see the size difference.

It’s done in the newer style of Mandalorian armor that started with the ROTJ Boba Fett. The  chest armor is on a vest which is flexible. It has improved knee armor introduced with the Death Watch figures, and the shoulder armor allows for better range of motion.

This figure has all the features of a “deluxe” figure but at a regular figure price. I say “deluxe” because in the past we’ve been informed that paint apps and accessories were the reason why the most recent Boba Fett and Cobb Vanth figures have been featured with deluxe pricing. This Mando has a good amount of accessories, and I think the paint overall is really good. The color of the beskar appears to be on par with what we see in the show – a lot of detail overall.

The soft goods cape is one of the best features of the figure and is long overdue for Mando. (I’m sure Josh’s Custom Capes is working on a wired one.) Every previous version of Din has had a plastic cape that just didn’t sit right. It was very disappointing when the Season 2 Deluxe three pack with Ahsoka and Grogu gave Ashoka a soft goods poncho but snubbed Din on soft goods. (Heads up – the second release of this Din Djarin for the Mines of Mandalore Episode of Season 3 will not have a soft goods cape and will revert to the plastic cape.)

For Black Series Soft Goods this one is better than most of them. It tucks under the armor just like in the show and features some weathering at the end of it.

The other “deluxe” feature is the inclusion of the Vibro blade and the ability to store it in his right calf. For a small piece, it’s decently detailed and painted.

I will mention two extra picky flaws and two missed opportunities. They’ve never painted on any Mando the red on the grave charges nor the silver on the knee blasters. Easy to fix with some silver and red paint. There are a few other missing paint apps on the back of the belt, but they’re not obvious.

I do think that there is a missed opportunity by not including the Beskar spear that he did have in the Glavis Ringworld episode. For a good chunk of the episode, he is featured with the spear on his back before he hands it to the armorer. That could have been the only acceptable reuse to include the spear and attaching part from the Season 2 three pack.

I’ll note the back plate does have a slot that looks like it could have been for the spear and holder from the Season 2 Ahsoka/Grogu pack.

The good news is that the same slot is compatible with the Amban phase pulse rifle from previous Mandos. So If you have a spare rifle give it to him!

The other missed opportunity is that the helmet is one solid sculpt like the DeathWatch Mandalorians. It does show the bottom of a human head. It would have been nice to get a fix of the Pedro Pascal head with a proper helmet, but I’ll be grateful for the decent helmet sculpt that it is.

But overall I think this is a 9 out of 10 figure.

I hope this means they’ll retire the subpar mold and hopefully not reissue this one too many times. If you are unable to nab the Book of Boba Fett Glavis Ring World version, there is a Mandalorian Season 3 Mines of Mandalore (MoM) version coming out in a few months. I’ll point out that, even though that version is the same figure mold, it will not come with the soft goods cape or the jet pack. Unless packaging is a strong point for you, I suggest trying to get the Glavis Ringworld version and skipping the MoM version.
