Ki Adi Mundi Arrives… Finally

Just a month after we asked, “Where was Ki Adi Mundi?” he finally went up for preorder at a few fan channel sites – first at a few smaller stores, then Entertainment Earth and Big Bad Toy Store. For about two weeks, we wondered if he might go up anywhere else. On 5/22 we saw him go up via Hasbro Pulse, and he was seen in store in a few Gamestop locations. Our preorder via the Big Bad Toy Store arrived!

This figure has come out almost 2 years after he was pipelined and a year since we saw actual photos of him. So the question is, “Is the figure worth the wait and all the mystery?”

I’ll highlight a lot of his features and let you decide.

He is a completely new sculpt. There appears to be no reuse. There is a lot of detail in his robes. While his outer tunic does have a sculpted hood, it looks great with the figure. Many of his parts are solid plastic in the color they should be. The outer robes and under robes are two different pieces. There are minimal paint applications. It’s commendable for how great the colors look overall, but the boots could have used some paint or weathering.

He is fully articulated. He does have the thigh swivel which has been removed in most newer figures. He also has a calf swivel with the boot which is rarer in Black Series figures. The outer robe is flexible enough for some poses but too inflexible to do some more dynamic posing!

This is a good and well-done figure! Is it necessary for the Black Series? Yes, although it was not worth the long wait and mystery around its release. It was also bizarre that after the first two mentions of Ki Adi on Hasbro panels, he was never officially mentioned again.
