The Black Series Shin Hati figure review

Goldilocks and the Three Heights: How to Shin Hati Just Right

We’re continuing our series of taking a look at a few newer figures. Today’s figure is the New Black Series Shin Hati. If you read our previous post on Baylan you might recall that many pointed out a few big flaws in the final products of Baylan and Shin Hati. The biggest flaws many pointed out were Shin’s height and many were not fond of her head sculpt. By itself the figure is decent but not great. The armor and articulation is decent although the figure follows the trend of removing the thigh swivel from the legs.

Even after fixing Baylan, Shin still seems too tall, especially side by side with Sabine. Fear not – there are a two fixes that correct the height and add the thigh swivel.

I sill say this before getting into my attempts to fix Shin. I have seen two other fix attempts. One involved a swap with the New Sabine’s thighs and the other involved cutting out a portion of the thigh and using “green stuff” to reassemble the leg. In my opinion the Sabine fix is too pricey and I’ll admit i’m too scared to attempt to cut a figure like that.

Two thigh swap options we came up with are using Koska Reeves and Endor Leia. I’ll show you both options and you can decide for yourself.

You will need to hot water to separate the leg parts. You should be able to push lower legs into the thighs of your choice while they’re warm. (I’ll link a hot water kettle if you’re concerned about putting your figures in a pot of boiling water)

Looking at the fix with Koska I do think it makes her smaller over all  is a smidge smaller than the fix with Leia. If you go this route you may want to, repaint and take off Koska’s thigh armor.

I found Leia thighs easier to repaint and move the knee pad armor! When the leg is hot you can cut off knee armor from the original Shin thighs and glue them to the Leia thighs. I recommend gluing after you’ve painted the legs.

Over all Leia is cheaper on Amazon and can still be found at some Ross Stores. You might find a good deal still Koska but as of this post the cheapest I saw her for was $22.59.

If you see from the pictures I went with the leia option and decided to leave my spare Koska for a different custom figure.

For our fix for the head I did some minor touch ups. Many are opting for buying a custom sculpted/painted head for Shin. But I didn’t want to spend even more money fixing this figure.

I did a quick fix on her hair by brushing rust powder on her hair for depth, a hint of soot powder on top to match the show, and painted the Padawan braid.

As with Baylan, there was a also a running change with the color of the lightsaber blade. The switch was from red to orange. I was fortunate enough to get the orange blade. You can see the difference when placed next to a red blade.

I’ll link Shin and everything I used so you can tackle this project yourself.
