Droidekas roll out: A Toy Review

What a great time to be a fan of the prequels and the Clone Wars! So many great figures are coming out.

The new Droideka that just came out is a perfect addition. It’s an extremely well-done figure. There are a lot of details and moving parts to this figure. Hasbro did a great job capturing the intracity of this droid. With some work, it even transforms into the rolling ball mode as seen in the films.

Because of this complexity, the droid is fragile in certain parts, so care should be taken when posing and trying to convert it into ball mode. The plastic is softer in a few areas and slightly more flexible. The arms do tend to droop at times. There is a cool piston detail in the arms and adds to realism and articulation of the figure.

The paint apps are decent but the gray metal parts seem like they need to be more robust when up close. But given that most of the cost went into the articulation and details, I can understand why the paint apps aren’t super phenomenal.

The ability to convert it to the ball mode is fun. I wish Hasbro included some instructions to help you achieve this feature. It did take a while to figure it out. I looked up some YouTube videos of the figure and of the Droid in media. You can’t get it to go into ball mode exactly like it does on screen, but I did find a decent alternative. It does involve turning the back leg around so it curves upwards towards the back of the droid. One of the good things about ball mode is that if the surface is flat enough it will stand on its own.
